Internet Browsers

I may be an unlucky soul, or too adventurous. I gave up with Opera after it would not handle my online banking properly. I moaned to Lloyds Bank and they knew about the issue and suggested I go back to Google Chrome, where I was before, without problem. I just tried to order a micrometre from RS Components and right at the last point where I kept getting bad request with some more unhelpful information, I phoned. They could not take the order over the 'phone as I don't have an account, but said that it was probably my browser. Sure enough, it was. I tried again with IE and it went straight through.

I've dumped Opera and now seen the shortcomings of Chrome. I am using a PC with Windows but I was working towards dumping Windows and getting more devices to use other operating systems.

I guess my quest for the simple life of having the same operating system on phone, tablet, and PC is doomed. And no, I don't want anything Apple.

As the main device from browsing, ordering, and banking, what do most people use as the operating system and browser?

Browsers on PCs is not where Banks are steering us - they want us to use our smartphones for banking. However, rather than mandating that, they will instead introduce niggles into their systems which will effectively force PC users to abandon their browsers and work exclusively with apps on 'phones.

TL/DR/Don't Do Conspiracies: Have you tried FireFox? My BroLaw swears by FireFox.

I use Opera on my PC for most stuff. So far, so good, but I don't bank at Lloyds.

I use DuckDuckGo for important stuff, it does not save your searches like Google and if you do a search on either you will get different results.

Just buy a decent Win10 machine and use Chrome. All your problems (barring self inflicted ones) are sorted. If you are into the dark web, torrenting or porn, use TOR and duckduckgo. :)
OMG .... you mentioned DarkWeb..... we'll never see him again.

Brave is a version of Chrome I use with built in anti-tracking stuff really good except for financial stuff.

I tried Brave .. and all the others, I use em for testing really but there is no benefit in sticking with them. I work in IT and websites and almost every issue I get with people and our company website revolves around their browser choice. I even see twonks on Explorer 4 still !!

Honestly, if you configure Chrome properly there is absolutely no reason (certainly on a Windows machine) to use anything else.

If you dont want to save or see history/cache/cookies/pop-ups - just set it that way in Chrome...you will get the nag screen about privacy every time though if you do that. Better to leave Cookies alone ;)

There does not seem to be a simple, universal answer. The hassle of moving operating systems and browsers does not seem worth the hassle. I'll just keep in mind that with banking and shopping, nothing is certain.

I'll stick with whatever operating systems that I have on the device so that will be a bit of Windows 10, Chrome, and Android. That method seems to be easier than trying to unify. I will stick with Chrome as my main browser but in the knowledge that it can let me down with ordering on-line and banking.

I do agree with the point that banks

And..... don't leave us hanging...

I got interuppteed by a delivery and didn't mean to post at that point. Somebody made the point above somewhere that banks are not really embracing people using PCs as they seem to prefer mobile banking on phones and devices. I guess that it fits in better with the trend for closing branches. I have the mobile app on my phone. I think that if you need to pay in a cheque then you can just take a photo of the cheque on your phone and the app does the rest. Even using a PC for online banking is very old-school these days.

Kids do everything on their mobile, these days, except call anybody to speak to them!
