What open face helmet do you use ?

I've got such strikingly good looks I fancy showing my face off when I'm on some nice wee ride outs.
Never had one before but like the look of the Davida range.
What are the ones you guys wear ?
Not really bothered discussing the benefits of fool face helmets as I have one and will still wear it but would like the option.
I don't like the flip ups either so.......

Bought at Stafford show a few years ago and got the "show discount". They will be doing the same again this weekend.
So quiet I never use ear plugs and almost impossible to hear someone talking when wearing it.
Don't buy blind though as sizes will differ from the open face. Good folk to deal with as well. May have agents somewhere near you but no-one up here.
Would buy again when this one finally wears out but could be a whle as quality is excellent.
 
I tried the large, my normal size and no way could I wear it, even the xl seemed too tight. Tried the xxl at west coast HD :eek: on saturday and it felt fine I think. Will probably try them again before I decide. What discount is the show price ? tempted to go but fancy the NEC later on.

I've got one of these but in red, white and black, you can wear it with out the chin bar. Noisy, drafty but i think it looks the mutts nuts.

Haven't checked the current price but think they were about £220 retail.
Again not sure as I didn't ask last year although I did buy a visor and goggles when I was there buy think it was £170 at the show.
Give them a call and ask them what deals are they doing there. Phone tomorrow though as by Friday they will be at Stafford already setting up their stand which is in the corner of the main hall.
 
Other thing is they sell off some of their older "show" helmets at the show and they will do a deal on them as well. They have a selection of styles and sizes but often they will take your money at the show and then post out the helmet later as the helmets are usually made to order.

Is this Stafford show any good ? been disappointed with shows recently, off road, atv, bikes etc they seem to take loads of money from you for entry and parking then when you get inside you're round it in an hour !
 
I've got a Davida Jet as well.

Really well made with the leather lining. I bought mine from Breaking Point in Aberdeen - the bloke was really helpful. Size wise I coudn't believe how tight it was when the guy said "yeah that's the right one" - it felt like my eyes were popping out. When it arrived (made to order as Stewart says) it felt even tighter, but it quickly settled in to the shape of my head and it's great now, a real snug fit still though. You can't hear a thing it them. Really quiet and no need for ear plugs - and cool as F**k!

You struggle to get round Stafford in a day! An hour wouldn't even cover the ground floor of the main hall. Throw in a couple of acres of outdoor stands/displays and 5/6 other halls, auction on the Sunday and you have a full weekend of entertainment.
 
I have an Arai 'Freeway'. I tried a Davida and it was lush, really well fitting and a leather lining. It fitted so well that I couldn't get my specs on :mad:

The one problem I have as well. I wanted to wear sunglasses at times (ok not often in the North of Scotland!) and just no way. I bought last year a tinted visor I could use in place or or in addition to goggles. Again bought at the show.
Buy prescription goggles?
 
You see plenty of folk wearing sunglasses with them and davida do their own as well. I wonder, do you 2 have huge lugs :)

It's a roof boxer, the chin bar flips all the way to the rear of the helmet independent of the visor and can be removed completely.
Technically it's not a flip up as you're thinking of them.

I am sitting here squirming away reading this thread... .. I know, I know, its all about personal taste etc.. but having seem my friend come off in front of me at 70mph in the outside lane, and she landed on her face with a Shoei, thankfully she still has a face as the helmet did its job - had this been an open face helmet I dread to think what state she would be in... this off was not her fault either.
*hides from open face lids*... :(

Funnily enough we are stockists for Davida helmets, but wont be carrying anymore till spring!!!

temporarily davida have stopped making the jet helmet.........they will tell dealers when they re start, so be wary of placing an order for one at the moment

There was briefly a stockist in Nairn a few years back but I would think Aberdeen is maybe the closest now?

Quick skook at the dealer list shows Aberdeen and Edinburgh as only dealers in Scotland?

Just had a look at their website. The sunglasses they sell have "very flexible" read rubber legs to fit in the helmet.
I snapped the legs off a pair of glasses trying to squeeze them onto my face.
The helmets are VERY tight fitting which is one of the reasons they are so quiet in use.
 
West coast HD IN Glesga have the. Thats where I tried it on. Gordon, do you guys have any in stock to try on and check size ? Was thinking of popping by tomorrow.

I accept all the arguments for wearing a full face but at the end of the day it comes to informed individuals making a choice as to what "risks" they accept in life.
To take to it's logical conclusion you would ban motorcycles as they are statistically more dangerous than 4 wheels. Doesn't matter what gear you wear you are more likely to be injured on 2 wheels than on 4.
Part of the enjoyment I get is feeling wind on my face (clearly not in the hair!) and I "know" I am more vulnerable if I come off and as a result ride slower and more defensively as a result.
I balance the fact I am less likely to have an accident against if I do have one I could suffer more serious injuries. That is the choice I make.
If others choose a different set of risk factors when on a bike I respect their choices as well.
Fact is if biking was 100% safe a lot of us wouldn't do it!

Plus, as Neil and Teeny's statistics prove; 100% of reported accidents on this thread happen to someone else.

Exactly!

And other factor which is statistically proveable is classic bikes have far fewer claims which is why the insurance for them is ridiculously cheap compared to modern bikes and statistically a large percentage of classic bikes are ridden by folk with open faced helmets.
To follow to the logical conclusion open faced helmets are far safer!

And another thing........;)............. over the last few years there have been many reported incidents on here ( I accept Chiz has his fair share!) but how many involved someone with an open faced helmet?

With a watertight case as that I fear the EU legislators will be banning full face helmets soon!;)
