One of my pals has just started up his own logs business following recent redundancy. Until he gets more established he is selling through another pal who already has a website, distribution etc in place..

firewood logs for sale

They are not DuN members so hope this post does not break the rules, but they are bikers, Guzzi V50, Triumph T140 and a big old Beemer thing ...

Jings! The price of firewood has fair gone up!
20 years ago, before we moved into the toon we had a Raeburn and a woodburning stove. At that time I was buying sticks at £27 a tattie boxful, approximately a tonne.

LOL! Feel free to negotiate.. A bag doesn't look much but when you have it all stacked up it's a fair old amount of logs.

I have a chainsaw in my van now for just that reason. Any old bits of wood I find now get lopped up for the fire....

Must be the Yorkshire in me :) :) :)

I just been looking at wood burner fires and it's all changed since I were a lad.
Used to be able to chuck owt on t'fire them days.
Now....it's gotta be regulation predried seasoned wood....none of that manufactured construction stuff mind.
Talk abart elf and safety....it's gorn mad.

Nay, NAY I say, pallets is a no-no cos too much tar and residual on them.
Tha's best get a chimney smoker thing that cleans it art.
got some nice ones in Lakeland that sparkles and stuff when y'chuck em on.

I can recommend a Jotul F250 braw for old pallets, offcuts of ply, mdf , broken chairs, decking boards or your actual logs; seasoned, damp or otherwise :D

A rare heat on full bore tho - it will have you down to your semmit even on the harshest January night.

I used to have a couple of woodburners in my last house. I initially made the mistake of burning non-seasoned wood. Never again. The mess the resulting creosote that the burn gave off coated the inside of the stoves glass front and it took *hours* to clean off properly.

Do you know the trick of using the ash from the fire on a damp cloth to clean the glass? It's like magic!!

Slightly off topic, but here goes.

When my brother bought his current house, in deepest rural Kent, the previous owner was there to hand over the keys.

This house (cottage really) has an inglenook fireplace, and at the time it had a basket fire in it. Anyway the guy points at the fire and says "I've left you the ashes". Sure enough there was a massive, compacted pile of ash under the basket. Thinking this was some weird Kentish house-handing over ritual, my bro just said "Cheers mate!" and made a mental note to hoover the lot up as soon as the last guy was out of the door, which he duly did & thought no more about it.

The fire was a pig to light & then when it did light, it burned the wood really quickly & hardly kicked out any heat. He was moaning about this to one of his new neighbours in the pub & this guy said he'd come round & have a look.

He rocked up, looked at the fire & said "Where's your ashes? Didn't that w4anker leave you the ashes? It takes months to build them up properly! The inconsiderate b4stard". (apparantly the previous owner wasn't well liked in the village...)

Turns out that the ashes work as a bed for the fire, making the wood burn slower & helps radiate the heat.....

He has a wood stove in there now.

Put a wood burner in a couple of years ago and its braw. only ever had to buy firewood the once. there always someone looking for the odd tree taken down in exchange for the timber.
there are a few tree surgeons around who will let you assist them in clearing a site. they generally have to pay to dispose of it if they are't inclined to chop it up an sell it.

Aye, I often go out to the shed to see if the eBay fairies have been and there is an auld fert' bag filled with offcuts or a broken fence or something lying in there - once the neighbours know you are burning sticks you won't go short.

Nope - didn't know that one - I was using a stanley blade and Jif.... But unfortunately I don't have that problem anymore. All mains gas now - part of the joys of moving into civilisation :-(
