Time for change...

Not seen a black one in the show rooms, was this a special order. Bike looks great you will love it. Bet you put it thro its paces at Oulton :D

There seems to be a lot of 1098's appearing around these parts this month!

I heard there's another couple in the last few days ;)

well I have stuck with the 'proper' ducati sportsbike for some time and have cherished and loved my bikes, but finally decided it was time to move with the times and upgrade. So on Saturday I get one of these...

I am a little bit excited :D

And..............?

the verdict is it was WET... really WET!!

so pretty darn hard to tell much at the moment other than it sounds nice, the seat and screen needs changing and I have wet pants :o

More suited to a new jet ski recently, really sucks when you've got a new bike

....well, has she got it then? I haven't yet seen a pic of her with it yet (unlike the million pics Jon posted of him ponsing around on his new toy! :D :D :D )

...I've heard a rumor that other people may be in receipt of new bikes also.... ;)

well, now up to nearly 200 miles and have had the odd mile of dry'ish road.

Couple of things to note...

seat is silly slippy - neoprene one being ordered tomorrow
Screen is a waste of space - high level also being ordered
gearing is tall.. 6000rpm will bring it in at a steady 112mph
the front end likes to come up with little encouragement
the back end is very stiff
pegs are a bit low
it's quiet (that could be because all I could hear is the Desmo :D )

pictures at some point... but here is one of me setting off from JHP yesterday taken by Andy Shep

   ...i referr to my previous post about porn ;) ...and lets face it ..ducatis are just porn on wheels

Fantastic Claire. Can't believe the wet weather though. I just don't do wet weather these days, can't remember the last time I rode in the wet, certainly not on a new bike. :)

Notice said van in the background to collect the bike, but no someone wanted to ride the thing in monsoon conditions  needless to say after 40 miles I stopped an insisted it go in the back of the van because I could barely see myself

If you're saying the gearing is tall, presumably you intend to lower it. Won't that make the front end more likely to lift? You really need to moderate the twist of the wrist and use more torque to drive it. It's not the same as the old bike. Pegs are low probably if you are going to race, you'll find they're are pretty much OK if you are going to spend long days in the saddle. Soften off the back end to suit - I presume you mean spring rate or compression damping here. I found the front major soft for me. Stronger spring needed, brings you more range of adjustment. Lift the back end by about 10mm, that helps load the front. May mean you have to use your knees more on the tank, but stomp pads help there -also they take the weight off your wrists and forearms. Core the cans for more noise - I did mine and with a JHP performance air filter it's pretty handy.

Hope that helps.

not planning on changing the gearing, was just commenting on it really.

With regard to using the torque - then yes, once i get used ot it I probably will, but for first rides and running it in the idea is not to labour the engine so whilst I am not entirely certain on the revs for each gear I was not letting it drag at all.

Rear spring will be getting changed, not really ridden it hard enough or even in the dry and not really sat in the right position to be able to judge the front or ride height yet

New seat and screen arrived today so will fit that and see how it feels when i can hold my seating position. Would prefer not to use stomp grips, but it may be required.

Used to riding with higher rearsets on a sports bike and also prefer the better grip so will probably change these sooner rather than later.

System will hopefully be going on at first service :)

Did you read that fast break-in method fully? It needs careful analysis and understanding, but I don't think the science is wrong. However if, as you say, you've done 200 miles now, it's too late anyway, so best forget it and do it the old fashioned way. Shame because you've missed the chance to get the rings fully bedded.
