Which is knackered, battery or Optimate?

I bought a new BS BTZ14S three weeks ago. I fully charged it on the day it arrived, fitted it to the bike and connected to an Optimate. Over the last week, the Optimate has been signalling that the battery is weak and a voltmeter shows the voltage at 11.5 volts. I've taken it off the bike and am charging it with a traditional charger to see if it'll hold a charge.

This battery was bought to replace the 4-year-old Yuasa that came with the bike, which was starting to show a weak indicator on the Optimate. Wondering if the Optimate could be the problem, rather than the new battery?

I’d say charging with a traditional charger will give you your answer.

I have an optimate 2 and that won’t charge a battery that’s very low.
Hour or two on a traditional charger then back on the optimate and it’s ok from there.

I have a Noco genious 2 that has been looking after my 996 battery for well over 2 years, it can charge acid, Lithium, and agm batteries! (y) Bloody brilliant thing, i had an Otimate and to be honest it was shite, i'm sold with Noco.:)

I use a Noco Genius 5. The additional current capacity allows me to use it for the car too. My 1st one failed after 2 1/2 years but they replaced it with a new one, no quibble.

That's good they replaced it, would or does Optimate do that!

Er, no. Pics taken after 24 hours on a traditional charger...

An hour later, 11.5v

Ended up buying a Yuasa from Halfords today. Hopefully won't go the same way as the BS (which is going back for a refund), otherwise will have to blame the Optimate.
