Sony DV 8mm camera with DV out

Just got back from belgium/france.....WW1 battlefields experience with 64 2nd year high school pupils.

Filmed the whole lot on my Sony Handycam DCR TRV245e 8mm DV and planning on doing the usual producing a dvd for the kids (and parents) for them to remember this moving experience.

Only problem is it has developed a fault and I cant transfer the footage to my computer to edit. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I plan to get the camera into Sony to see if the fault can be fixed, but in the meantime still need to get the tape footage transferred onto my computer as the turnaround for producing the dvd is usually less than 2 weeks.

Does anyone in the central belt have a digital (preferably sony) video camera for 8mm/Hi8 (not mini 8) with DV out socket I could perhaps borrow?

I've got an old Canon which i'm pretty sure is mini DV I keep now for backup video for my youtube stuff.
I'll check and if so you're welcome to borrow it if it's any good distance wise?

Mini DV and Digital 8 are different formats Mike and use different tapes. Digital 8 was the digital version of Hi8 and used the same tapes.
 
Ahhh, now you mention it, I'm sure the old old camcorder (my first one), was Hi8, that's long gone unfortunately, sorry Robbie, thought I might have been able to help there.
The tapes are a bit bigger than the MiniDV aren't they?

Thanks for the offer, but yeah..its The bigger one I am after....
 
Digital 8 was never that common in the first place and it must be about 8 years or so since I last saw one. Does it still playback or has the mechanism packed up? If it plays and you can get an analogue output there are ways of getting it digitised onto the computer.

Maybe, but from what I can gather it was common amongst those who are serious about filming stuff...hence why surely someone on here has one?

It's the Hi8 with DV output that is the problem.
The tapes playback but with Grey bands across them both on the camera screen and the computer just says "no".
Camera is away to Sony to get fixed (could take 2-3 weeks).
As mentioned the problem is that I need a camera now to get the footage edited.

I have an old chinon VCR that may use the same format.Only problem is I'm in Birmingham.
Won't be home till Fri/Sat.Will have a look when I get home.

It's got a head clog and just needs a head cleaner tape ran through it for 10-15 seconds. I hope Sony don't charge you much for that.
