MAP Sensor recommendations

I've a Diavel in the workshop at the moment with an EOBD light and a pressure sensor error code. It needs at least one (possibly 2) new manifold air pressure sensors. Now Ducati charge a whopping £85/€100 or thereabouts each for these 😱.

Ducatiparts-online.com in the Netherlands (no extra vat/duties for me if I buy in the EU) charge €75 each for allegedly OEM parts 🙁

There are numerous parts (part no. 55241571A) available on ebay etc from China at a much more reasonable €15-25 each, but here's the question, has anyone used one of these? Are they OK or am I likely to end up with the same issue, ie a failed part in a few months time?

A picture for your delectation - ignore the p/no in the top right.

edit. Photo of the bike now added as it’s prettier than the sensor.

I haven't tried one myself but at €15-€25 it might be worth a punt. Are there any manufacturers marks or part no. on the sensors? if something like Bosch or Marelli it might be possible to source them elsewhere at better price.

Aaah stop being such a tight git (I thought the Scottish were bad) and open that crusty old thing in your back pocket (known as a wallet to most of the human race) and fork out for a newie.

It ain’t mine though, but a customer’s and I can’t go spending his money willy nilly or charge Ducati dealership prices.

No marks that I can see 😕

That's a pity cause sure as hell Ducati didn't make it. It will have been outsourced from somewhere. In earlier times most Ducati sensors were common to many Fiat and Alpha parts but if there are no identifying marks that makes it near impossible to find an equivalent.

I’ve had a couple of those cheap ones dropped in with bikes for replacement and had nothing but trouble with them, usually not clearing the error and more importantly still not reading pressure… if they do work, they don’t last for long.
By the time you factor in double the labour to replace with a good one, the savings are gone.

Apparently some have had success by flushing them out with this

It's a very interesting topic .
There's certainly a lot of malarkey going on with component pricing .

I came across a good example with the gearbox actuator on paddle-shift Ferraris .....
..... they break , and it costs over a grand as a Ferrari part , but it's also used on some Lancia models ,
and as a Lancia part , it's a fraction of that price ( around £100 ? )

Same story with Rolls and Bentley , which are packed with components from BMW .

Re. Chinese copies .....
@Nelly has been there , done that , etc. .... and as he says ..... the high failure rate only leads to
unhappy customers and double labour costs ..... so it's probably a false economy in the long run .

There's the makings of a cracking business venture here , but first you'd need to build an index
of parallel usage of the components , across a big chunk of the automotive industry .

...... Hmm

Thank you Nelly, this was my concern.

As an indicator..... the OEM ones that Ducati supply are partially purple around where the vacuum hose connects. The cheaper ones are all black. If nothing else, you'll know if you're getting "OEM" or not

Old tread revival as I thought I'd share my quandary... First of all this is all 100% @West Cork Paul fault as he insists on living too far away in the republic of Cork to me in Kildare 😆... 3 weeks ago my 1299s started running slightly off and threw up a check engine light and because of Paul's selfishness I have to diagnose by intertube videos 👀 I took a chance on a pair of map sensors from Hong Kong but had decent reviews because I'd didn't know if that was my issue.. Tonight I pulled off the rear cylinder sensor and fitted the spurious sensor and no change so replaced the front one and bingo the check engine light was gone so I replaced the rear cylinder original sensor back onto the bike but the warning came back so a lot of checking I wasn't mixing up the original sensors and it looks like both original sensors have failed so both replacement sensors are now fitted to the bike and it now has no faults on the dash.. This isn't a second guessing post as I could just be lucky.. I will now ride the bike for a while and see how reliability is. A Horible little job where everything is tight and awkward to get at but super when it works out, 👌
